You want a seductive look in your eye? Mascara can help. But you don’t have to buy it, because making mascara yourself is very easy!
Black eyelashes are simply sexy. They make our eyes expressive and accentuate them discreetly. You don’t need any other make-up anymore.
Two to three times with the small brush over the eyelashes drive and tired eyes belong to the past.
Apply a little dark colour with mascara and your eyes will shine.
You don’t have to go to the drugstore, because you can make mascara yourself.
I’ll show you how easy it is to make mascara yourself.
How to make mascara yourself
There are different recipes for making your own mascara. You can also mix them with beeswax.
However, this is a bit more complicated because you have to melt down the ingredients. Our homemade mascara is vegan.
Here come the ingredients you need to make it. I bought them all online and put them in a link for you. All ingredients marked with a * can be ordered directly from Amazon.
1 pinch of cornflour* with a knife
1 coated teaspoon of white clay*
1 coated TL activated carbon*
1 tsp water
1/2 tsp Aloe Vera Gel*
Mix starch, alumina and activated carbon in a small bowl. Mix well until everything is thoroughly mixed.
Stir in aloe vera and water. Leave the ingredients to stand for 5 minutes to mix well.
Fill the mascara into an old mascara form.
How long your homemade mascara lasts
I always produce natural cosmetics in small quantities. Because it does not contain any preservatives, it does not last that long.
At room temperature you can keep the mascara for four weeks. But it’s better to keep it in the fridge.
If you are betting on making mascara yourself, you can either store the mascara in an empty mascara bottle.
Or fill it into a tin – important: put the lid on it and close it tightly, otherwise your mascara will dry out.
If you like to make larger quantities, you can fill the portions into ice cube moulds and freeze them.
Take them out of the freezer shortly before use and let them thaw. Then simply apply as usual.
Why make your own mascara
There are plenty of reasons why mascara making yourself is better than buying it.
Allergic reactions to purchased mascara
Conventional products from the drugstore very often lead to intolerances. The eyes start to water, are reddened and irritated. Sometimes they also itch.
In any case, the eyes look anything but sexy afterwards. This is because you are allergic to the ingredients. You are not alone.
Many mascara contain harmful substances. Even if we are not allergic to them, the effect on the body is not clear. Our eyes are particularly sensitive. Mascara often contains microplastic. Let’s be honest: Who wants to have plastic in their eyes?
Animal testing in bought mascara
Animal testing is still the order of the day for make-up. Mice, rabbits and other animals are kept and tortured in small cages. A terrible idea for me.
When I buy make-up, I take special care that it is free from animal testing. This is explicitly stated on the products. If you can’t find a clue, then you can be sure that animals had to suffer for the make-up.
Self-made mascara is always the best solution.
Mascara is expensive
Are you all right? 10 Euro and more for a little black paint? No, thanks!
Of course there are also very cheap mascara, but in it you will find all the more harmful substances. Preservatives, dyes, silicones – we do all this to our eyes every day.
And for what? Just so the look looks better. But we risk the health of our eyes. That’s really not related.
If you put your money on doing mascara yourself, it will cost you just 10 cents per serving.
If you like making natural cosmetics yourself, then you already have most of the ingredients at home. I didn’t have to buy a single ingredient for the mascara I made myself.
Bad reviews for bought products
In the Ökotest many mascara were classified as questionable. They received the marks “insufficient” and “inadequate”.
In some of them even substances were found which are supposed to be carcinogenic. Other substances make the skin more permeable to harmful substances and can trigger allergies.
There were better marks for natural cosmetics. This artificial nonsense is completely dispensed with.
But it is still best to make your own make-up. Because then you can be absolutely sure what will end up in your mascara and above all: What not!
Making mascara yourself is really not witchcraft. In a few minutes the black paste will be mixed and you can start to apply mascara to your eyelashes.
If you don’t want to do without dyeing and compressing your eyelashes and want to damage your eyes, then you should make mascara yourself. Or at least go for natural cosmetics when shopping.
